Certified Usability Engineer

In the training program for Certified Usability Engineers (certified by the German Accreditation Body (DAkkS)), Fraunhofer FIT provides essential tools and methods required for a career in usability engineering. Core concepts, methodologies, and processes of usability engineering are taught and practically applied — especially the methods for developing and evaluating interactive products and their development processes — in accordance with internationally recognized usability standards ISO 9241-11, -110, and -210.

In Person:

5 days (+ final examination) 

  • Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM 
  • Final examination: Saturday, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM 
  • Additionally: Guest lectures in the form of two fireside evenings with dinner, 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM

Online Training:

  • Definition of usability, user experience (UX), and components of the context of use according to ISO 9241-11 
  • Context scenario method for analyzing and documenting contexts of use 

Learning Module 2: Entwickeln von Nutzungsanforderungen

  • Documenting as a “user-centered requirements specification” 

Learning Module 3: (Prototypical) Design 

  • Normative design-relevant standards 
  • Introduction to emerging Technologies and Generative Artificial Intelligence
  • Low- and high-fidelity prototyping 

Learning Module 4: Testing

  • Understanding and applying ISO 9241-110 
  • Qualitative and quantitative usability and UX evaluation methods 

Lernmodul 5: Designing the Usability Process 

  • Roles and interests in IT projects 
  • Establishing usability engineering (according to ISO 9241-210) within corporate product development processes
