Energy & Sustainability

Experts in sustainable development

Everyone is talking about sustainability these days – and recent political developments and social trends mean that this topic is becoming more and more important for industry and the business community. Energy and sustainability is a broad topic that meshes together a wide range of disciplines. It requires the most up-to-date knowledge and interdisciplinary training and development.

European Battery Business Club

The demand for skilled workforce in the battery field is multiplying corresponding to the expected high increase in the production capacities for batteries in Europe. Therefore, there is an enormous need for training in the battery field.

Wind Energy Systems

Germany is one of the leading countries in the renewable energy field and its current energy turnaround is a clear political signal for further action towards a sustainable energy supply. The main objective of the master's program and the certificates in Wind Energy Systems is capacity building in the field of wind energy for research and industry.

Solar Energy Engineering

The continuing education program (M.Sc. and certificates) in Solar Energy Engineering provides profound insights into the physics, technology and system design of solar cells, photovoltaic systems and solar thermal devices. Excellent researchers from the Fraunhofer ISE and the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg provide courses based on the latest scientific and technological knowledge.

Renewable Energies in Latin America

Many Latin American countries like Chile have the perfect climate conditions for wind energy and solar energy but struggle with a lack of skilled technicians in this field. Fraunhofer is a leading research organisation on this topic and offers different certificates and master degrees on the topic of renewable energies. In our new brochure we list these programs that can all be studied online and in English.

Master Environmental Sciences

Only available in German.

The complexity of global, regional and local environmental problems requires interdisciplinary mindsets and approaches. The FernUniversität distance teaching university in Hagen and the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental, Safety and Energy Technology UMSICHT offer a number of courses ranging from masters to foundation modules which build on the concept of interdisciplinarity and sustainability.

ELLB - Empowering Battery Professionals

Be part of our major goal: the establishment of the European Learning Lab Battery Cells ELLB - a lively community with a wide range of innovative upskilling and reskilling offers on the subject of batteries, which is playing its part in actively shaping and advancing qualification in the battery sector in Europe.

Energy System Technology

Only available in German.

The Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE responds to the request of sustainable renewable electricity and developed the Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) "Energy System Technology". The participants will learn a holistic approach to energy system engineering and energy supply based on current research findings of the Fraunhofer ISE.

Specialist for Electric Mobility

Only available in German.

The transition from combustion engine to electric mobility not only calls for the development of an suitable infrastructure, high-performance battery systems or new vehicle concepts. This transition will change the established structures of suppliers and vehicle manufacturers. The Fraunhofer IFAM and TÜV Rheinland Akademie respond to this change in technology and provide a practical insight into the main themes of electric mobility in a a joint training seminar.

Energy Data Analyst

Only available in German.

Based on the current state of science analysis and forecasting methods and their evaluation play an increasingly important role in the seminar "Data analysis and forecasting for the energy industry" offered by the Department of Applied Systems Technology Ilmenau (AST) of the Fraunhofer IOSB. Participants will be trained in different analysis and forecast methods based on industry experiences.

Resilience Engineering

Only available in German.

Given the complexity of current security issues, a look beyond the immediate limits of one's own sphere of influence is necessary in addition to classical risk analysis procedures. The term "resilience" does not only mean the identification and prevention of possible complications, but also deals with the question of how technical systems (eg subways, power grids, production lines) can be restored as quickly as possible.

Master Online Building Physics

Only available in German.

The functional requirements of buildings are becoming increasingly sophisticated as a result of current climate policy. The Online Master of Building Physics is a distance learning course which is designed to give participants a comprehensive insight into the complex relationships and interactions in the field of building physics. The course demonstrates a clear preference for the concept of damage prevention as opposed to damage repair.
