Power electronics require high performance qualification

The increasing electrification within many lines of industry will pose new challenges for the interconnection technology. With the development of mobile electric vehicle concepts, the need for high current and high voltage contacts in the automotive sector, for example, is increasing significantly. The variety of materials and the selection of appropriate joining techniques require a broad, tailored to practice, knowledge.

The understanding of highly reliable electrical interconnections as well as the necessary skills in the field of manufacturing and failure analysis are only to be guaranteed by professional qualification measures.

Course Content

The course describes the reliability of different materials and quality requirements according to industry standard. Quality features to inspect a crimp connection and the calibration of different tools are going to be demonstrated.

The criteria for the proof of reliability are discussed by means of tensile tests, measurements of the voltage drop and micrographs. The execution of crimp connections is conveyed on the basis of manufacturing instructions, whose monitoring and evaluation is carried out according to the acceptance criteria of IPC-A-620th.
